Farm Fresh!
Today we start raising our new batch of chicks! We now have 80 chickens, if you count the hens in the other coop. That's a lot of character-building opportunities for the kids out here on our little hobby farm. Eric and Christy built the new brooder out of scraps of wood in the garage. They did a great job of making sure all the chicks have plenty of space. Exciting times!
Blizzard Hazard & Stranded in Rochester
What a weekend! Eric & I left Friday afternoon to attend the MACHE Convention in Rochester. We planned on staying overnight Friday, then coming home after the Saturday workshops. About mid-afternoon, the winter storm was upgraded to a blizzard! After the last workshop, there was an announcement that all northbound roads were covered in ice, and some roads had been closed. So, we decided to stay in Rochester for another night. Most shops were closed, but we had a lot of fun walking the miles and miles of skyways! There weren't many options for dining, so we got to try out some places that we normally wouldn't have tried. We had fun exploring and making the most of the situation! Grandma Becky was taking care of our kids, so we knew we didn't have to worry about being gone so long. We're so thankful she was here! God provided, and everything worked out! We've lived in Minnesota for almost 17 years now, and this is the first time we've actually been "stranded" somewhere because of the weather! We're home safe now, but what a memorable event!
Educational Field Trips
We've been having some fun visiting the Minnesota History Center and The Science Museum of Minnesota!
At the Theater
We got to see Christy & Becca act in The Rock Academy Player's production of "Anne of Green Gables" last night! They did a fantastic job, and all of their hard work really paid off!
This Old House
We've been working on finding out why our kitchen sink is dumping gallons of water into our basement. It has been an all-day project, and we're still not getting very close to a solution. We hope to find a fix soon, so we can at least make it through the weekend!
Christy's 17th Birthday Party
She's hosting a Lord of the Rings marathon at home with some of her friends. She created a menu of hobbit food and theme-related goodies like blackberry tarts from Bree, Elvish Waybread, Gimli's Seedcake, and even Eowyn's Stew (made a little more tasty)! She loves to have fun, but she also knows how to serve. We are blessed to have her in our lives!
